I've recently launched a new Substack newsletter where I'll be sharing content that doesn't quite fit elsewhere. If you're considering signing up for yet another newsletter... well, brave choice. The internet certainly needed more content, right?
But seriously, this Substack is where I'm uploading the results of my research and wanderings – including random observations, unpublished and archival scribblings, podcast updates, and occasional insights that don't make it to this blog.
What to Expect on the Substack
Raw, rarely reverent thoughts on China, history, and travel: Some might eventually evolve into more polished pieces, while others will remain the half-formed musings they are.
Behind-the-scenes stuff from my podcasts and other projects: The stories too strange, tangential, or possibly libelous to make it into the final cuts.
Travel dispatches: Where I am, what I'm seeing, and what history I'm obsessing over in any given location.
The occasional Jeremiad: (ahem) about historical misconceptions, travel clichés, and whatever else irritates me that week.
I know you get a lot of newsletters in your inbox. I do, too. But if you enjoy the content on this blog and want more frequent, perhaps less polished updates, the Substack might be for you.
I'll do my best to send timely updates. You pinky swear you'll read them, and I promise not to flood your email with stuff you don't want to read. Deal?
Also, while the newsletter content will be unique from what I post here, I'll continue updating this blog with my more polished and focused work. Consider the Substack a complement to, not a replacement for, this space.
